Do Scandinavian national health systems cover dental work done overseas?
Swedish Försäkringskassan, Norwegian HELFO, Danish CPR-coverage, and Finnish Kela do not cover elective dental treatment abroad. Adult dental is only partially covered at home — Norway and Sweden reimburse limited treatment annually, Finland offers subsidised public dental, and Denmark offers partial coverage through sygesikring. The EU Cross-Border Healthcare Directive can reimburse a small portion of EU-based dental treatment if pre-authorised. Regardless, LocalCare savings (typically 70–85%) far exceed any national reimbursement.
Can my Scandinavian dentist access my treatment records?
Yes. Every LocalCare partner clinic provides complete digital treatment records including X-rays, treatment notes, and material certificates in standard DICOM/PDF format. Any Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, or Finnish dental practice can read and import these.
What if something goes wrong after I return home?
All LocalCare partner clinics offer written warranties (typically 5–10 years for implants, 5 years for crowns and veneers) honoured directly by the treating clinic. LocalCare coordinates warranty claims and return-visit logistics on your behalf, but travel costs for warranty visits are the patient's responsibility. Minor adjustments can be handled locally by your Scandinavian dentist using the treatment records provided.
Do I need a visa to travel for dental work?
Swedish, Danish, Finnish, and Norwegian passport holders now enjoy visa-free entry to Vietnam for up to 45 days (policy extended through 2028). They also travel visa-free throughout the EU/Schengen zone (including Hungary) and to Turkey (90 days). For longer Vietnam stays, apply for the 90-day e-visa (US$25) online at evisa.gov.vn. No medical or dental-specific visa is required.
How long do I need to stay for dental implants?
Most implant procedures require 7–10 days for the initial phase. If your treatment includes a permanent prosthetic (e.g., All-on-4), you may need a second visit of 3–5 days after 4–6 months. Some clinics offer same-day permanent teeth protocols.
Is it safe to fly after dental surgery?
You can fly 24–48 hours after most dental procedures. For surgical extractions, implant placement, or bone grafting, we recommend waiting 3–5 days. Cabin pressure changes do not affect dental implants or crowns.
What materials do the clinics use? Are they CE-marked?
LocalCare partner clinics use the same global brands as Scandinavian practices: Straumann and Nobel Biocare implants (CE-marked), IPS E.max and BruxZir crowns, 3M and Ivoclar bonding materials. Material certificates with batch numbers are provided with every treatment.
Can I combine dental work with a holiday?
Absolutely. Budapest combines with Vienna or Prague, Istanbul with Cappadocia, Vietnam with Phu Quoc or Ha Long Bay. Many Scandinavians treat dental trips as a winter escape. We'll help plan your itinerary around treatment schedules.
What about follow-up appointments?
LocalCare schedules virtual check-ins at 30, 90, and 365 days post-treatment via WhatsApp video call. Your clinic reviews healing progress remotely. If an in-person visit is needed, it can be done at any LocalCare partner clinic or coordinated with your local dentist.
How do I pay?
Clinics accept SEPA bank transfers, Visa, Mastercard, and cash (EUR, USD, or local currency). Quotes are in EUR by default with SEK, NOK, or DKK available on request. Payment is made directly to the clinic. LocalCare does not charge patients any fees.
